It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere-Superbowl Edition!

When I was younger, I didn’t care much to watch football or the Superbowl.  It was more interested in hanging out with my friends.  Or Duran Duran.  I was definitely more interested in Duran Duran than in football.  My dad, however, watched every Sunday. During the fall, as I was running in and out of the house, he was cooking and baking while watching the game.  Every. Single. Sunday. Always one of my favorite memories.

Now  we come Superbowl Sunday 1983.  I had no idea who was playing, nor did I give a shit. My brother, who is 3 years younger than I am, was {is} crazy obnoxious. (He doesn’t read my blog, I can say that). So, it’s Superbowl Sunday, I just got out of the shower. I was cleaning my ear with a Q-tip, my brother whips open the bathroom door. The door hits my elbow, the Q-tip pierces my ear. To this day, I remember the pain. Superbowl Sunday 1983…spent in the emergency room. I’m pretty sure my brother is still grounded.

I bet my dad needed one of these that night!  Cranberry Fizz Punch!! Great for Superbowl parties since when doubled, it makes a lot! And goodness knows we may need it for the half-time show. I’m kidding!!!!  This punch can be made with or without the good stuff.  Ahem..I mean vodka.  In fact, you can make it without any alcohol; and then the adults can add a splash to their glass.  Double the recipe…it’s that good.

Cranberry Fizz Punch

  • 1 qt Cranberry Juice Cocktail, chilled
  • 1 C Grapefruit juice, chilled
  • 1 C Orange juice, chilled
  • 1/2 C Sugar (start with less than 1/2 C, add slowly, taste along the way)
  • 2 C Ginger ale, chilled
  • Vodka, as you see fit, or added to individual glasses
  • Ice cubes with lemon wedges and cranberries (optional)
  1. Mix cranberry juice cocktail, grapefruit juice, orange juice, and sugar until well blended.
  2. Add ginger all just before serving.
  3. Add vodka at your discretion (a lot, a judgement here, just don’t drive)

Tootsie Roll? Not for the kiddos!!

Some things are just not meant to last forever.  Summertime, a good pair of shoes, a delicious cookie, a relationship.  It’s an unfortunate part of life. What sucks is when anything ends, it brings change.  I HATE CHANGE.  I don’t really do well with it.  All you can do is hope that through all the tears, that it’s for the best and learn from it.  Because those shoes lasted me a realllllly long time!

On a different note, (no pun intended, ok, well maybe it was a little bit intended), the French horn is coming along.  The moose is dying a lot less, and noise is flowing a bit better; almost like, music.

HALLOWEEN IS EVERYWHERE!!!  And I’m here to help!  What’s your favorite candy in your kids’ pillowcase at the end of the night on 10/31?  Don’t bullshit me. I know you browse their case.  I know I do!  I love the Milky Ways and the Tootsie Rolls. Here is where my help comes in!!

Tootsie Roll

  • 2 parts rootbeer
  • 1 part Kahlua

Mix, add ice.  Tastes just like a Tootsie Roll.  Just. Like. It.  Yummmmm

These will help you deal with change.  Ok, so maybe they will help me with change!

Short but sure to layer

Weekend. Where have you been??  Just know that I love you and you are welcome here all the time!

Updates!  Ms. Autumn, sadly did not make the U10 soccer team.  Despite all of her (our) hard work.  She’s just a trainer player. She likes the game, and although she is hurt that she’s not on the team and a little worried about what they are going to think, she likes the girls and is going to take on the position. Now if I were her, I would work so hard just so I could say Efffff you, you didn’t pick me for the team, take that little dose of regret. But she’s a better person than I am and is just looking forward to playing.

Marathon training?  I accomplished 8 miles today!  And poor Jane (my training partner). I complained the whole time.  I ache from head to toe. It’s for a good cause…it’s for a good cause…it’s a for a good cause And still need to raise $475.

OMG!!!  I did a podcast with Dee from  It was to promote this blog, and to talk about the struggles of being a new blogger.  I was super nervous. It was sort of like a job interview.  I haven’t been on a job interview in 12 years!!!  I fumbled my words..I’m not even sure I was using complete sentences. But it was fun and in the end, she’s going to edit. Thank goodness!

I’m whipped… We only have one kid here.  The girls are at my sisters house for a pool party. Time for bed!  **wink, wink**  Who am I kidding?  I’m going to crash as soon as I hit the pillow.  Must. Stay. Awake.

You party animal you!  Have a drink.  I’m going to bed. Thank you Tipsy Bartender!!

Barbados Surprise

  • 1/2 oz.     Grenadine
  • 2 oz.          Orange Juice
  • 1 oz.          Blue Curacao
  • 3/4 oz.    Rum

Add Grenadine to a glass.  Add ice.  Layer on Orange juice.  Layer on a mixture of Rum and Blue Curacao.

Very, very very important to layer where it says to layer.   When you layer, it looks like the picture on the left.  When you don’t layer, it looks like the right.  It was delicious, just not as pretty.  And it’s very important to have a pretty drink!  Give me a break!!  I’m tired.  I will layer the next time I make it 🙂

Saturday Night’s Alright…..OOOOOOOOOO

It’s Saturday! My 9yo is currently mid-meltdown.  I’m just letting her have it.  I haven’t even raised my voice to her. I simply walked out of the room. She’s stressed out from U10 soccer tryouts, and I think lack of sleep.  At this very moment, I am “the meanest mother ever!!!” because she is being mouthy and I have made her turn the TV off and making her go to sleep.  Meanest. Mother. Ever.

LET’S DRINK! And hopefully not end up hungover. Last round of soccer tryouts is tomorrow morning before cuts are made.  I’m fairly certain mama puking on the sidelines would not earn her any points.

The name says it all.  It has vodka and my favorite “F” word.  How bad can it be?  Totally got this recipe from Tipsy Bartender.  I’m not a huge Tequila person, but this was tasty!  Could I drink enough of these to puke on the soccer field? Nope.  But it was fruity and sweet, and most 23 yo ladies will like it!

Adios Mother F*cker

  • 1/2 oz.       Vodka
  • 1/2 oz.       Rum
  • 1/2 oz.       Tequila
  • 1/2 oz.       Gin
  • 1/2 oz.       Blue Curacao
  • 2 oz.           Sweet & Sour
  • 2 oz.           Lemon Lime Soda

I just put everything except the pop (soda for those not in Upstate NY) in a shaker.  Poured and topped off with the Lemon-Lime sodipop!

Adios MotherEffer

Next up: Cinnamon Toast Crunch with a twist.  Now this is going to get me in trouble.  Delicious.  Does anyone remember a  restaurant named Ground Round? They used to serve this little dessert of doughy cinnamon sugar triangles with a side of warm chocolate sauce to dip them in.  This tastes just like it.    Autumn should have made sure I had one of these before she decided to meltdown.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch (Twisted)

  • 2oz      Rum Chata
  • 2oz      Fireball Whiskey
  • Chocolate Syrup

Line a martini glass with chocolate.  Swirl it, twist it, or just line it up and down. In a shaker, add whiskey and rum.  Pour in the chocolate lined glass.  I threw in an ice cube.  Goes down easy.  Careful ladies!

Up next:  Results of cut throat kickball tryouts, Allison turns 16 and marathon training (doing 6 miles tomorrow)!  And maybe a recipe! Or what’s this???? Maybe a scrapbook page!!

I think we all want to be at the beach!

The weekend is over.  Over already!! It’s an outrage! It was a very busy week. Between court dates, school projects, stressful work meetings; I really needed a slow, long weekend.  There isn’t enough time in the day.  Seriously. How am I supposed to be this super mom/significant other/friend/ sister/career woman/blogger/cook/maid when there are only 24 hours in one day?  Oh and I’m supposed to be working out on top of all that?!  Geesh.  I’m human and  I don’t think I’m that flexible.   Of course if I took the time to do yoga, I probably would be.

So, what does one do before one’s mind explodes into millions of pieces?  Goes in the alcohol cabinet and starts a mixing.  That’s what she does! Would she have been better off on the treadmill?  Of course.  But this was a lot more fun!

I don’t know the name of this.  Given it’s fruity nature, I’m assuming it’s probably a “something on the beach”. Which is exactly where I need to be right now. I need a real vacation!  Did I mention it’s still freezing here? Yeah.  Take me to the beach! Please! Anyway, it’s potent. Tread lightly and enjoy.

Something On The Beach

  • 2 oz       Amaretto
  • 2 oz       Whipped Vodka
  • 2 oz       Peach Schnapps
  • 2.5 oz    Orange juice
  1. Mix all ingredients over ice in a shaker.
  2. Shake (You don’t say?!)
  3. Pour into a glass. I use martini glasses, just cause they are girly. Thank you Sex and the City!  I’m sure a highball would work fantastical.
  4. Garnish with a cherry.

Chocolate cupcake? Yup!

It’s the WEEKEND!!!!! Finally and thank goodness! It has been a very, very long week with court date, white knuckle driving, and illness.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m quite ready for winter to be over!

This week unfortunately, wasn’t filled with any exciting new recipes. I didn’t get any blogging or scrapbooking done. Yet, on the bright side, I made strides toward a healthier lifestyle. For two weeks in a row, I’ve only had one cup of coffee per day. Which for me is huge, since I think coffee should be a food group. Seriously, it should. Now I have to focus back on exercise!! Once I can breathe again, I’m on it!   Only 1 cup of coffee and exercise?  I will be ready for a bikini by May.

In other news, the Iditarod starts today.  Not too many people care about the race, (everyone in my house included), but I used to live in Alaska, so for me it’s almost up there with the Super Bowl.  Autumn and I will be having a Mushing party. Any excuse to party! 🙂 We will try to keep it healthy. I have a feeling after this week though, some adult hot cocoa for mommy just might be involved.

In completely unrelated news, cocktails and Pinterest. I love Pinterest. I pin lots of cocktails. And hot men. mmmmmmmm. Sorry, back to cocktails. Now, I’m a not too much of a girly girl. I don’t have time. But my drinks? Completely girl. The more fru-fru the better. Keep in mind, I’m not a bartender. I leave that to the professionals. But at $10 a drink, I thought I would start experimenting at home.  It’s got to be cheaper!  First Pinterest cocktail experiment? Success! The ol’ man thought it tasted like gasoline. But he drinks beer. Not cocktails. I say, experiment, make it to your liking and enjoy!

Chocolate Cupcake

  • 1 oz     Heavy Cream
  • 1 oz     Whipped Vodka
  • 1 oz     Amaretto
  • 1 oz     Godiva Chocolate Liquor
  • Frosting, sprinkles and chocolate syrup

Dab frosting around the rim of a martini glass. Roll in sprinkles or colored sugar. Line martini glass with Chocolate syrup, to your liking. Yummm. In a shaker with ice, add cream, vodka, amaretto, and chocolate liquor. Shake, shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake. Shake your booty. I mean, your shaker. Pour into pretty glass and drink. Responsibly. But drink ‘er up.
