Photo 101-Landmark

Where I live is a small town in upstate NY.  We don’t have a whole lot going on in the way of landmarks. I could have gone into the city to take a few shots, but I wanted to keep it local.  It’s not like we have the Golden Gate Bridge or the Empire State Building.  But, what we do have is something completely Bogus.  It’s something that I stumbled upon accidentally over the summer.  The local rec program was offering beach yoga.  And I’m like wth?  We don’t have a beach!  As it turns out, we do.  Who knew?

A little background on this lovely lighthouse!  It’s real name is Braddick Point Lighthouse, built in 1896. It’s now a privately owned residence. It was known as Bogus Point because a drop off point for counterfeit smugglers coming across from Lake Ontario.  Get it? Counterfeit? Bogus?  I love it!! I totally have the sense of humor of those from 1896!

Anyway, this picture was taken over the summer, (obviously since it’s snowing today).  This picture doesn’t do the lighthouse justice.  It’s breath taking!

Both photos taken with my Canon SLR and completely unedited.  As if you couldn’t tell 🙂

I love your little lighthouse and the story behind it is fascinating! Who would have known about it in your little town….amazing!

Lighthouses are great! The great thing about them is none of them are really designed the same.
